Frequently
Asked
Questions

Does The Healing Theory see children and infants?

Yes. Several of our practitioners work with paediatric patients, from infants through to adolescents. Children have distinct physiological and developmental needs, and our practitioners who work with younger patients are experienced in adapting their approach accordingly - using gentler techniques, age-appropriate communication, and treatment plans that account for where a child is in their development.

Which practitioners at the clinic see paediatric patients?

Paediatric care at The Healing Theory spans multiple disciplines depending on the child's needs. This may include physiotherapy for developmental movement concerns, sports injuries, and postural issues; chiropractic care for musculoskeletal complaints; acupuncture and TCM for a range of conditions including digestive concerns, sleep difficulties, and immune support; naturopathic medicine for chronic health conditions, allergies, and nutritional support; and counselling for children and adolescents navigating anxiety, school stress, and emotional challenges. Contact us if you have a specific concern and we'll help identify which practitioner is the right starting point.

Is chiropractic or physiotherapy safe for children?

Yes, when performed by practitioners experienced in working with paediatric patients. Techniques used with children are significantly gentler than those used with adults and are always adapted to the child's age, size, and developmental stage. Parents are always welcome to be present throughout any appointment involving a minor.

What are the most common reasons parents bring children to the clinic?

Common presentations in paediatric patients include sports injuries, growing pains, postural concerns, scoliosis monitoring, headaches, digestive issues, recurrent illness, sleep difficulties, anxiety, school-related stress, and support for children with chronic health conditions. We also see infants for concerns including feeding difficulties, colic, plagiocephaly, and general unsettledness, particularly through our acupuncture and naturopathic practitioners.

My child is anxious about coming to a clinic. How do you handle that?

Our practitioners who work with children are experienced in building comfort and trust with younger patients. Appointments are never rushed, techniques are always explained in age-appropriate terms, and children are never pressured to do anything they're not comfortable with. Parents are always present and involved. If your child has specific anxieties about medical settings, let us know at booking so we can flag it for the practitioner in advance.

At what age can children start receiving acupuncture?

Acupuncture can be used safely with children of all ages, including infants. Techniques used with younger children often involve very gentle needling or non-needle alternatives such as acupressure or paediatric tui na. Your TCM practitioner will always explain the approach and adapt it to what the child is comfortable with.

Is paediatric care covered by insurance?

Coverage for paediatric patients follows the same rules as for adults - it depends on which service is being received and the specifics of your extended health benefit plan. Most plans that cover physiotherapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, and chiropractic for adults extend that coverage to dependent children as well. Our front desk team can help with any coverage or direct billing questions.
