It's a team effort that goes beyond the clinic to boost your confidence and help you rediscover what your body can do. They are partners in getting you back on your feet and back to living your best life!

Meet Your Physiotherapist
at The Healing Theory

Beth is the best. Went to Healing Theory and saw Beth for a physio appointment. Great vibe, I actually had fun at the appointment and Beth's personality is just so disarming and optimistic. I'm going back regularly for appointments with Beth for my back. Highly highly recommend. Very nice office and everyone there is so friendly and helpful.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

What is physiotherapy and what does it treat?

Physiotherapy is a regulated health profession focused on restoring movement, reducing pain, and improving physical function after injury, illness, or surgery. At The Healing Theory, our physiotherapists treat a wide range of conditions including back and neck pain, sports injuries, post-surgical rehabilitation, joint pain, nerve-related conditions like sciatica, headaches, workplace injuries, and motor vehicle accident recovery. If you're not sure whether physiotherapy is the right fit, book a free 15-minute meet-and-greet and we'll help you figure it out.

Do I need a doctor's referral to see a physiotherapist?

No referral is needed to book a physiotherapy appointment at The Healing Theory. You can book directly online or by phone. Some insurance plans require a referral for reimbursement, so it's worth checking your specific benefits before your first visit - but clinically, you can access physiotherapy directly without seeing your doctor first.

Is physiotherapy covered by OHIP or my insurance?

Physiotherapy is not covered by OHIP for most adults in Ontario, but it is covered by the majority of extended health benefit plans. We offer direct billing to most major insurance carriers. Our front desk team can help confirm your coverage before your appointment. If you were injured in a motor vehicle accident or have a workplace injury claim through WSIB, additional coverage options may apply.

What happens at a first physiotherapy appointment?

Your first visit begins with a detailed assessment - your physiotherapist will review your health history, ask about your symptoms, and conduct a physical examination of your movement, strength, and the affected area. From there, you'll discuss a personalized treatment plan with clear goals and a realistic timeline. Depending on your condition, hands-on treatment may begin in the first visit.

How long does a course of physiotherapy typically take?

This varies considerably depending on the nature and severity of your condition. Acute injuries often show meaningful progress within 4 to 8 sessions. Chronic conditions, post-surgical rehabilitation, or more complex presentations may require a longer treatment period. Your physiotherapist will set clear milestones at the outset and regularly reassess your progress so you always know where you stand.

What techniques do physiotherapists at The Healing Theory use?

Our physiotherapists draw from a range of evidence-based techniques including manual therapy, joint mobilization, therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation programming, soft tissue release, ultrasound therapy, wax dipping and education on posture and movement habits. Treatment is always individualized - there is no single protocol applied to every patient.

Can physiotherapy work alongside other treatments I'm receiving at the clinic?

Absolutely, and this is one of the key advantages of a multidisciplinary clinic. Physiotherapy integrates naturally with chiropractic care, massage therapy, acupuncture, and naturopathic medicine. If you're seeing multiple practitioners at The Healing Theory, they can coordinate your care so treatments complement each other and you're not duplicating effort.

Can I do physiotherapy if I'm currently in pain and can barely move?

Yes. Physiotherapy is appropriate even in the acute phase of an injury or flare-up. Your physiotherapist will always work within your current tolerance and adapt techniques to what your body can handle. In many cases, appropriate early physiotherapy intervention speeds recovery and reduces the risk of an acute problem becoming chronic.
