Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine at The Healing Theory.
What is Acupuncture and How Does It Work?
+Acupuncture is a key component of Traditional Chinese Medicine that involves the insertion of thin needles at specific points on the body to stimulate healing and restore balance. These points are strategically located along pathways called meridians. When properly stimulated, acupuncture activates your body's natural healing response, improves circulation, reduces inflammation, and promotes overall wellness.
What Conditions Can Acupuncture Treat?
+Acupuncture is effective for treating a wide range of conditions including chronic and acute pain, back pain, neck pain, joint pain, headaches, migraines, sciatica, arthritis, digestive disorders, IBS, bloating, acid reflux, nausea, stress, anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, and emotional imbalances. Many people also use acupuncture for fertility support and post-surgical recovery.
Does Acupuncture Hurt?
+Most people find acupuncture to be a relaxing experience. While you may feel a slight sensation when the needle is inserted, acupuncture needles are extremely thin and most people report little to no pain. Many patients fall asleep during treatment. Your practitioner will communicate with you throughout your session to ensure your comfort.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
+The number of sessions needed varies depending on your condition, how long you've had it, and your overall health. Some people experience improvement in 1-2 sessions, while others may benefit from a longer course of care. Your practitioner will assess your condition and recommend a personalized treatment plan during your initial visit.
Is Acupuncture Covered by Insurance?
+Many extended health benefit plans in Canada cover acupuncture treatments. Coverage varies by plan and practitioner credentials, so we recommend checking your plan details. We also offer direct billing to most major insurance carriers. We recommend confirming your coverage with your insurance provider prior to your appointment.
What Should I Expect on My First Visit?
+Your first visit includes a comprehensive health assessment where we discuss your symptoms, health history, lifestyle, and treatment goals. We'll ask detailed questions about your condition and perform a Traditional Chinese Medicine assessment. You'll then receive your first treatment. Most initial appointments are 60 minutes long, allowing adequate time for thorough evaluation and treatment.
What is Your Cancellation Policy?
+We ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Late cancellations and no-shows may be subject to a fee. We understand that life happens - if you're running into a barrier getting to the clinic, call us and we'll do our best to find a solution that works for you.
